- also, I’ve just clocked, 40yrs to the day since Nicola Bryant’s role was announced. Unsure if it was also America’s National Bikini Day that day too but if so then wow
It is a load of plot threads in a search of a story but I can forgive it loads because some (if not all) of the dialogue is great, Peri is introduced as a modern, three-dimensional character with a bit of attitude, and Wyngarde gives a fabulous, subtle performance - a world away from the arch Austin Powers stuff he was known for. It also has the incredibly hot Barbara Shelley in it but you wouldn't know as she's in a bad wig and in the background playing Third Peasant or whatever.
As my wife put it, “Of all the Doctor Who stories ever made, Planet of Fire is certainly one of them.”
Imagine getting the brief for this story. All you have to do is:
• Write out Turlough (while exploring his backstory)
• Reintroduce and then write out Kamelion
• Introduce Peri
• Write out the master
• Have scenes that can be filmed in Lanzarote
Not surprising how it turned out
Congratulations on your timing, you’ve managed to post this on what is in Peri’s home country National Bikini Day 🫡
