Also, isn't it nice to see the Doctor so happy? Even Tennant and Smith had dark sides (early days, of course for Gatwa.) But he is full of joy and wonder.
Apparently the scene with the policeman was added following a Disney note that they wanted to see the Doctor in action earlier, which is why it’s a bit outside of the Rose PoV retread.
Along with the "I'm adopted" bit being a clever implementation of the Timeless Child stuff, I did really love the bit where Ruby disappears after a massive crack appears. Like, oh! I've seen that one before.
I think, it might be a largely unsupportable argument, he writes stories that are set on different heights, stories go from level to level to level. Uo and down rather an just on the same plane. Like the goblin ship being hidden in the sky. And the glove being a tool to travel up and down. Probably over-thinking it. But I think it's something we see again and again in RTD plots.
I rewatched this over the weekend and have to note that I found it charming. Ncuti is a fantastic Doctor and I like how contemporary he is. I was reminded that as a writer, and for plots, RTD loves to do "up and down" .... he writes vertically not just horizontally.... Gridlock is a good example. And Mrs Flood... who is she? Loved the breaking of the fourth wall. River, Pond, Flood... just saying.
I swear there's a Confidential years ago where he talks about a particular episode being designed like an L, with one setting far above, a setting directly below it, and then one clearly off to one side. Some very deliberate plotting to give audiences a sense of where the action is happening.

Oh I hadn’t clocked the Susan Twist thing. It can’t just be a daft joke they’re going to drag with them for ever, surely?
We are back! I can not wait to dig into the 15th Doctor! I think it is going to be a wild ride.

explain vertically and horizontally?

You missed Tom Baker’s old man beard in The Leisure Hive
I did!
