I hadn't realised until James informed me that the opening was taken from "Quatermass 2". It's loving homaged in "Rose". But the new titles (very "2001") and logo and it being in colour and the zoom in to Earth from space do make the first few minutes the most exciting minutes in any "Who". It doesn't live up to that brief promise, but nothing ever could. The idea of a thing is always better than the thing itself. (One reason, of course, why comic strips of things are so exciting when you are a kid.)
Yeah, I was a Target kid too - I am eternally grateful that my local library had what felt like an entire shelf of them which I must have gone through several times.
