Rob Shearman has always castigated me for liking this story. In 1987 I thought it was the only serial in the season to have any sense of impending, constricting threat. There are all manner of diversions which needn't be there, but there was still a promise of horror which appealed to some jaded fans nostalgic for the previous decade.
This one seems to genuinely annoy the generation of fans maybe 10 years or so up from me and I just don't understand it? I've always thought it was brilliant and assumed it would have been re-assessed, but apparently not
I think I probably am the generation of fans ten years up from you. I think we're divided. When Dragonfire won the DWAS season poll, the editorial alongside the result expressed exasperation at its victory as it lacked any sort of story, or so I recall. I disagreed!
I can’t remember which NA it was but one definitely said Ace and Glitz banged. Apart from Time and the Rani this season is great
